As you get more comfortable playing Hold ‘em and other poker games, it may
be time to step up to pot-limit games. Pot limit is a hybrid between No-limit
and limit hold’em. In this variant, while there are still fixed bets, any
player is allowed to raise any amount (assuming he has enough chips) within a
certain range, determined by the size of the pot during his turn. The minimum
allowable raise is the size of the bet or raise immediately preceding that player’s
turn to act. The maximum allowable raise is the size of the pot. So, when it is
your turn to act, you can call to the previous bet, and then raise the full
amount of the pot after your call.
In bricks-and-mortar casinos or in home games, calculating this amount can
be tricky. Luckily, CardRoom.com’s software will automatically make this
calculation, ensuring that at no time will a player raise more or less than is
allowed.
